FAST-FIN-1 (TRENAK1) Finnish Institutions Research Paper, in which 'Finland Studies' topics are examined via supervised English-language research papers, is a required course in the English Translation and FAST curricula. Central to FIN-1 is the exposition, documentation, and digital editing of academic papers, an archive of which is maintained online. FIN-1 comprises the English-language research paper requirement for the B.A. in English Translation.

FIN-1 is offered each term for 6-10 ETCS credits. The course is limited to ETRAN and FAST degree students, for whom PK5 Digital Literacy and PK6 Academic Citation & Documentation are prerequisites, as well as AK2 English Professional Writing (ETRAN students only; AK2 is not required for FAST students). FIN-1 is not required for English Translation minor students, and is not open to international students.
