How to Subscribe to a UTA 'Listserv' E-Mail List
The ETRAN-L list and all the FAST and other UTA 'Listserv' lists use the
same subscription procedure.
Simply send an e-mail note to listserv@listserv.uta.fi with one
line of text in the body of the note as follows:
subscribe [listname] [firstname &
lastname], [major subject]
To subscribe to the ETRAN-L list, for example, a person named "John
Hopkins" would e-mail a note to
<listserv@listserv.uta.fi> with one line in the
body of the note saying:
subscribe ETRAN-L John Hopkins, English
Translation
- The underlining above
shows the four elements of your
subscription request:
- The 'subscribe' command;
- The list name you wish to subscribe to;
- Your own name; and
- Your major subject.
- A few seconds after Listserv has received your subscription request,
it will e-mail you a confirmation of your subscription.
- The case for the 'subscribe' command and the list
name does not matter, but it DOES matter for your own, personal name
(as in the example above);
- One should leave the "Subject" line of your e-mail note
vacant when the note is being sent to 'Listserv'; commands should be on
separate text lines in the body of your e-mail note.
- Note the comma between your name and your major subject (or other
identity detail)
- The sequence of name and identity detail should not exceed 37
characters and spaces.
You may also add other identifying information after your
name, as in the examples below.
subscribe ETRAN-L Marisa Mirelli, ERASMUS student, Italy (or)
subscribe FAST-L Pekka Pekkanen, MBA Program, TUT
You may also subscribe to several different lists with the same note;
just put each subscription request on a separate line of the note. For
example, one could subscribe to the ETRAN-L, FAST-L and USA1-L lists at
the same time by putting the following three lines in the same
request
subscribe ETRAN-L John Hopkins
subscribe FAST-L John Hopkins, English Translation
subscribe USA1-L John Hopkins, List Administrator (etc) . . .
Further, you may mix subscription requests and other listserv commands
on separate lines of the same note, as for example:
subscribe ETRAN-L John Hopkins, English Translation
review FAST-L (see Introduction
to Listserv Commands for details on Listserv commands)
unsubscribe USA1-L (to cancel a previous subscription to the
USA1-L list) etc. . .
How to Unsubscribe From a List
To unsubscribe from a list, send a note to
<listserv@listserv.uta.fi> with the syntax unsubscribe
[listname]. You do not need to give your name for an
unsubscribe command, only the list you want to unsubscribe from.
For example:
Several seconds later you will receive from Listserv a confirmation note
of your removal from the list. Just as with subscription commands, you
may combine several unsubscription requests (or other Listserv
commands as well) on separate lines of the same message.
NB: Note that "attachments", including "HTML mail" attachments,
can NOT be sent to FAST or other English Section lists. Mail sent
to the lists will be circulated only as plain text; Listserv will
automatically strip any HTML or other attachments from mail which is sent
to the list. This is for the protection of list subscribers against spam,
viruses and spyware, etc., as well as to ensure against the overloading of
student mailboxes via large unwanted attachments. Please read the List Settings for All FAST E-Mail Lists file for
further information.
