TRENS8 is an advanced course in English-Finnish liaison interpeting, for which TRENAK7 Basic Interpreting and TRENAK11 Public Speaking (both with a grade of 3 or above) are prerequisites. As TRENS8 is a Master's Level course, English Translation students must also have completed all compulsory Intermediate-level courses, including the Finnish Institutions Research Paper, in addition to their Basic Studies (cf. the English Section Study Code).

S8 offers intensive supervised practice in liaision interpreting in a small-group context. Students choose topics for each class, and review key terminology from background outlines and other sources for each topic. Each student will interpret during each class, with peer and instructor feedback. Each student will also have two longer (12-15 minute) interpreting 'exams', of which one must be done sitting and the other standing.

Evaluation for 4 ECTS credits is on continuous assessment and the two 'exams.' The emphasis is on practical professional liaison interpreting skills, with linguistic accuracy and performance 'believability' considered equally. Regular attendance is required. Students should subscribe to the INTERP-L course e-mail list.
