The New Yorker's Stereotype of New Jersey

This 1997 cartoon by Rick Stromoski for Wiley Miller's Non Sequitur series
captures the stereotypical New York view of neighboring New Jersey, based
on the view from Manhattan across the river toward Newark. This image of
New Jersey is often encountered on television and in films.
There is always some truth in stereotypes, however, as is evident of this
2003 webcam shot of industrial Newark. However, perhaps more
representative of New Jersey are these images from the National Parks of
New
Jersey, which is also known as "the Garden State."
Compare the above with Saul Steinberg's classic "View from 9th Avenue",
