FAST-US-7 (TRENAK15) U.S. Popular Culture Survey is an elective course in both the FAST and English Translation curricula. Students must have completed US-1 Intro to American English and US-2 U.S. Institutions Survey before US-7. As US-7 is an intermediate-level course, registration priority will go to students who have completed their Basic Studies.

US-7 focuses on aspects of U.S. (and, to some extent, Finnish) popular culture from both linguistic and substantive perspectives, covering folklore and folkways, humor, sports, popular literature, brand names and consumer behavior, media patterns and personalities, and the interrelationships of brand and trade names with changing demographic and popular culture concepts, as well as other popular phenomena in American culture. Evaluation for a range of 2-8 ECTS credits will be via a course exam with an optional student project or research paper.

Students should subscribe to the USA7-L course e-mail list.
