Application documents

To apply for the Summer School courses, the students need to fill in an online application and submit a motivation letter for the course(s) applied for.

Application form

All Summer School applications must be submitted via an online application form. If you have any questions on how to fill the online form, please contact

Motivation letter

The motivation letter is a short document (max. 500 words) where the students should specify why they want to take this course and how it would fit with their studies. If you apply for more than one course, you need to submit a separate motivation letter for each course applied for. There are no specific requirements on how to write the letter, but the following questions may be used as a guidance:

  • Why did you choose this course?
  • Do you have previous studies in this topic/field?
  • How do you think this course would fit your degree and/or other plans?

The motivation letter(s) will be submitted via the application form. Please use .doc/.docx, .rtf or .pdf  format and name the file Lastname.Firstname_Course title.

Selection schedule

Student selections will be made after the application period has ended. Selected applicants will receive letters of acceptance (per email) by the end of May. Also non-selected applicants will be notified.

Selected applicants must confirm participation and pay possible fees (instructions will be attached to the letter of acceptance) by 10 June 2018. If the confirmation has not been made by that date, the course reservation of the applicant will be cancelled.

Please note that Tampere Summer School reserves the right to cancel a course if the minimum amount of students is not reached. In case of a cancellation, applicants will be notified.

If you need a visa, see further instructions on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland website.

NOTE! Tampere Summer School team cannot provide you with assistance in obtaining a passport or visa. We recommend that you begin the application process for a visa as early as possible, as it may take weeks. Tampere Summer School cannot guarantee that you will receive a visa and cannot refund the course fee should your visa application be denied. We recommend that you wait until you have been granted a visa before paying for accommodation or social programme.
