Online Application Form
You must fill a separate application form for each programme you apply for. The application forms are accessible from the programme webpages during the application time. All applications are preprocessed by University Admissions Finland (UAF).
The online application form includes a CV and a motivation letter. On the form you must also provide a description of the grading scale used in your Bachelor’s studies and a direct link to a website where the scale can be verified. If there is no official website where the information on the grading scale can be verified, the information should be included in the transcript of records. If it is not, a separate official document describing the grading scale is required. The document should be issued and officially certified by the awarding institution, or compiled by the applicant and officially certified by the awarding institution. In addition to the aforementioned information you must indicate your intended source of funding.
We do not require enclosed letters of recommendation. However, you must give in the online application form the names and contact information of two (preferably academic) persons who know your academic achievements and have promised to answer our queries about you.
As we have applicants with very different academic backgrounds, we ask you to list in the online application form how many teaching hours you have studied your major subject and your minor subjects. If your study transcript gives ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits, please mention this in the online application form. No listing of hours is in this case needed.
If you apply to more than one international Master’s degree programme in the University of Tampere in the 2017 application round, you must indicate in the online application form their order of preference. In case you would be ranked among the top applicants in more than one of the programmes you have applied for, you will be offered a study place in the programme you have placed highest. You can only be offered a study place in one of the University of Tampere programmes.
Please do not send original certificates, diplomas, etc. which cannot be replaced. Application documents will not be returned. The copies must be officially certified (attested) copies issued by the awarding institution or attested photocopies certified by a Notary Public. Copies of copies will not be accepted.
In order to be considered for admission, applicants will need to submit the following enclosures to University Admissions Finland by the application deadline:
1. Printed version of the submitted application form
2. Certified copy of the Bachelor's degree certificate in the original language
One of the following documents is required:
A degree certificate is a document issued by an institution to a student who has successfully completed all studies included in the degree. The student has graduated. The degree certificate should include the name of the institution awarding the degree, the date of issue, and the name of the person to whom the degree certificate has been issued and which title/degree the person has been awarded.
Temporary (Provisional) Degree Certificate
A temporary (provisional) degree certificate is a document issued by an institution to a student who has successfully completed all studies included in the degree. The student has graduated. The temporary degree certificate is issued as a replacement for the actual degree certificate e.g. in case the actual degree certificate cannot be given to the student immediately after the studies have been completed due to technical or administrative reasons.
A temporary (provisional) degree certificate is accepted if it was awarded no more than five years earlier. The five-year validity period begins from the date on which the degree was conferred and must not expire prior to the application deadline. In other words, a temporary degree certificate is not accepted if it was awarded more than five years ago. In such cases, the applicant must present his or her final degree certificate.
The temporary degree certificate should include the name of the institution awarding the degree, the date of issue, and the name of the person to whom the degree certificate has been issued and which title/degree the person has been awarded.
Please also note the possible country-specific requirements, which might affect the way your certificate needs to be certified and/or submitted.Applicants in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree: If you will not graduate by the application deadline, please see Instructions for applicants in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree.
3. Certified copy of the transcript of records of the Bachelor's degree certificate in the original language
- full titles of the study units that the student has completed for the degree
- completion times of study units (or at the very least the overall study time at the institution)
- grades obtained
- credits awarded
- information on the grading scale used at the institution
The transcript must cover the full length of studies. If the degree includes course units that the student has completed in another institution and the transferred credits are not indicated in detail in the transcript of records, a separate transcript of records regarding the transferred credits should be delivered. The grading scale must include all the grades and marks that appear on the transcript.
Only official transcripts of records are accepted. If your transcript of records does not include the requested information, you will be asked by UAF to submit it separately according to the following instructions:
- Credits awarded for individual study units: An officially certified document issued by the institution that shows the credits awarded. If your institution uses a system different from the credit system, please submit an officially certified document issued by the awarding institution where the extent/scopes of the study units are shown. These can be indicated, for example, as study hours required to complete the individual units.
- Completion times of the study units: An officially certified document issued by the awarding institution that states either the completion times of the individual study units or your overall time of study at the institution. Please note that information on the usual duration of the programme is not sufficient.
- Grades: An officially certified document issued by the degree-awarding institution providing grades you have obtained.
- Grading scale: On the online application, you are asked to describe the grading scale used at the institution at the time of study. The grading scale must include all the grades and marks that appear on the applicant’s transcript of records. The description should include the grades in relation to each other and clearly depict the highest and lowest grade, as well as which grades are passing grades and which are a fail.
You are also asked to provide a direct link to an official website where the information on the grading scale can be verified. If there is no official website where the information on the grading scale can be verified, the information should be included in the transcript of records. If it is not, a separate official document describing the grading scale is required. The document should be issued and officially certified by the awarding institution, or compiled by the applicant and officially certified by the awarding institution.
We accept official electronic transcripts (e-transcripts) from a few recognised sources. Please check the accepted sources from the UAF website. The transcript must always be verifiable from the service.

6. Recent passport-sized photo
7. Proof of English skills
For any additional documents required by a specific programme, please check carefully the list of enclosures in the application form.
No exceptions to the requirements will be made.
The documents will be verified as a part of the assessment of applications. Accepted students will be required to present the original documents before registration at the University. If it transpires that false information has been provided, the right to study will be revoked.
If you have submitted an application in a previous application round, please notice that you will need to submit the required application documents again. If you apply for more than one programme, you must submit separate applications and enclosures for each programme.
