A good command of English for academic purposes is required for all degree programmes offered by the University of Tampere. We accept the following tests and scores as a proof of a good command of English:
Applicants who have taken their Bachelor studies and obtained their Bachelor's degree in English in one of the following countries are exempt from the language test: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. In addition, in Master's Programme in Peace, Mediation and Conflict Research, also a degree taken in English in one of the Nordic countries or Finland is accepted as a proof of English proficiency.
Some of the programmes may have slightly different language proficiency requirements, please read carefully each programme description and follow the link to the website of the programme to check the details.
Submitting test scores
A language test score must reach University Admissions Finland (UAF) by the application deadline. It is the applicant's responsibility to make testing arrangements for her/himself well in advance. Please be prepared that it may take several weeks for the testing organisation to publish the results. Your application will not be processed unless your test score is available. The test results are valid for two years.
TOEFL
If you have taken IELTS Academic, a copy of the test score is accepted. Please indicate in Section 23 of the IELTS registration form that University Admissions Finland is able to verify the score electronically. The testing centre will then make your IELTS score available to UAF.
TOEFL language test results must be sent to UAF by the testing organization. When filling out the TOEFL Registration Form, please fill in University Admissions Finland Institution Code 3138 in the Score Report Recipient field.
For those applying for a Doctoral programme, the instructions for submitting test scores are different, please see Language Requirements for Doctoral Studies.
