
The University of Tampere (UTA) is a multidisciplinary university with a special commitment to the critical scrutiny of social phenomena and on the formation of civic society. Research interests include society, economy, administration and culture as well as public health, wellbeing and education.
Doctoral studies require independent research and an extensive Doctoral dissertation, which is defended in public. Doctoral degrees also include other studies, some general and some more specialised. UTA offers a supply of joint doctoral courses, which are designed to take into account the different backgrounds and various needs of PhD students, and aims especially at improving research skills and skills students need in working life.
The Doctoral degree takes a minimum of 4 years and is worth 240 ECTS credits.
Applying for a doctoral programme in Tampere takes place twice a year (in May and November), with some exceptions. Information for applicants is available on the website of University of Tampere Doctoral School.
