Instructions for applicants and deadlines
The international Master's Degree Programme in Health Sciences (MHS) takes an interdisciplinary approach to health issues from a public health and global perspective and utilises various approaches to learning. The Master's Degree Programme in Health Sciences produces experts who are familiar with health, health care resources and the general themes and special features of national and international health care systems.
There are two options to specialize in, Public Health and International Health. Public Health aims to equip graduates to work specifically in national health care at population level research, development and expert functions. International Health puts further emphasis on work in multicultural organisations and focuses on the health effects of globalisation and the challenges to health care. Students make their choice of specialization when applying to the programme. NOTE! In the intake for the 2013-2015 programme only the Public Health option is available.
The programme comprises 120 ECTS and the duration is two academic years. The programme structure includes compulsory general studies, compulsory and optional substance and research studies in public health or international health and free choice studies. In addition the students write a Master's thesis and participate in the thesis seminar.
In the 2013 student intake 24 students will be selected to the Public Health option.

All applications for Master's degree programmes are to be submitted to University Admissions Finland (UAF) where all applications are pre-processed. Instructions for applicants are available at http://www.uta.fi/admissions/degreeprog/applying.html. The decisions on acceptance of students are made by the School of Health Sciences based on the application documents.
The following persons are eligible to apply to the programme:
All applicants must submit evidence of a good command of English for academic purposes. Applicants are encouraged to submit an internationally acknowledged language test result with their application.
The common requirements for all English taught Master's programmes at UTA are used:
Applicants who have taken their Bachelor studies and obtained their Bachelor's degree conducted in English in one of the following countries are exempt from the language test: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Note! This exception does not concern MBA degrees or BSc/MSc degrees which are taken electronically (online degrees).
Applicants are exempt from the language test if they have completed the English language studies that are required for a foreign language in all university-level Bachelor's degrees in Finland.
Applicants must be able to prove their educational background by means of officially authenticated copies of their diplomas. If the documents are not in English, Finnish or Swedish, both the documents in their original language and an officially confirmed complete and precise translation into one of the languages mentioned above is required.
Fulfilling the above admissions criteria does not guarantee selection but the applicants are ranked according to their experience, qualifications and other criteria.
Students are selected based on their application documents. No entrance examination. Applicants may be contacted for an interview.
Admissions results will be announced by 15 May, 2013. All applicants will be informed about the admissions results by mail.
Please see the University's general instructions concerning rectification procedure.
Applicants may be selected for a reserve position. Applicants on the reserve list may be offered a study place if some of the initially accepted students do not accept their study place.
