The programme is carried out in cooperation with international partner universities, students have an opportunity to study in at least three different universities.
The application period 2012 with an Erasmus Mundus scholarship (for student intake in summer 2013) closed on November 2012.
Application as self-paying student (for student intake in 2013): The application period is open until 23 May 2013.
The Masters Degree Programme in Research and Innovation in Higher Education (MARIHE) is an Erasmus Mundus programme offered in cooperation with University of Tampere (Finland), Danube University Krems (Austria, coordinating university), Beijing Normal University (China), and University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück (Germany). MARIHE programme provides students a unique opportunity to develop a sound understanding of the change processes of the society and how these link to higher education systems and university development with respect to policy making, management and leadership. Students are taught by the leading edge of international scholars and have the opportunity to study in at least three different universities as well as get insight into fields of practice during an internship provided by international enterprises and organizations. All students of MARIHE will have study periods at partners DUK, UTA and BNU. For the internship at the end of the 2nd semester, students will be with an institution related to research and innovation in higher education. Internship placements will be provided at associated partner organisations, but also at other organisations that have agreed to accept interns from MARIHE. For the 4th semester students in MARIHE will have to decide whether they want to specialize in
- the field of management of research and innovation in higher education.
In this case they will follow the management track and spend their 4th semester at University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück, Germany
- the field of research and analysis of research and innovation in higher education. In this case they will follow the research and analysis track and spend their 4th semester at either at Danube University Krems, Austria or at the University of Tampere, Finland.
The students accepted by the programme will be granted a scholarship from the European Commission.

Application for participation with an Erasmus Mundus scholarship:
The application period 2012 (for student intake in summer 2013) has been extended and runs now from 28 August to 28 November 2012.
Self-paying students:
The application period is open until 23 May 2013.
Student intake with an Erasmus Mundus scholarship and self-paying students for the whole programme is maximum 25 new students. Maximum 13 students will be granted the degree at University of Tampere.
Applicants to the MARIHE programme
2) certificate from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with test scores at least IELTS 6.5 with no individual score below 5.5
3) certificate Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English from University of Cambridge) with minimum grade C.
The following exception applies to the English language requirement:
Applicants who have taken their Bachelor or Master studies and obtained their Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in English in one of the following countries are exempt from providing an English language test certificate: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom/UK and the United States of America/USA. Note! This exception does not concern MBA degrees or Bachelor's/Master's degrees which are taken electronically (Online degrees). The applicants may also be interviewed.
All applications to MARIHE will be reviewed by members of the MARIHE Consortium partners. The reviewers will assess:
Eligible applications will be reviewed by members of the MARIHE Consortium Partners. The MARIHE Admission Board will then select applicants and propose a scholarship main list and a scholarship reserve list to the EACEA.
At this time applicants on the scholarship main list will be contacted via e-mail and asked to confirm their application by handing in the hard (paper) copies of their application documents.
After approval of the scholarship main list and the scholarship reserve list by the EACEA all reviewed applicants will receive a notice via e-mail. Applicants on the scholarship reserve list will again be contacted in case their application is moved to the main list.
