The programme is designed for software engineers who want to expand their knowledge of the discipline. It offers experience from both academic and industry perspective. Software development is examined in all stages of its life cycle. Teaching deals with different software development approaches, requirements management, software design, Internet applications, distributed systems, and adding intelligence in software. Graduates will have the abilities to participate in demanding and comprehensive software projects at different stages of the project and in various tasks.
Studies consist of lectures and seminars on theoretical and methodological questions, and supervised individual research for a Master´s thesis. Studies require active attendance and participation in classes. Some of the courses are organised only once during the programme period. Complementing studies may be required depending on the student's previous studies. Language studies in Finnish and English (and possibly Swedish if admitted Finnish students have not taken these earlier) must be included in the programme studies. After all the programme studies have been successfully completed, the degree of Master of Science will be awarded.
