The School of Education is a research and learning community which explores and analyses changes in education and society. It participates in building the idea of learning society in national and global scale by offering degree programmes for prospective educational professionals with top-quality societal and cultural expertise.

Degree Programme in Educational Studies

The teaching language in this degree programme is Finnish. However, every year there are several selected courses offered in English. It is also possible to complete some study units in English, not available as contact teaching, by writing an essay or by taking a set book exam.

Master's Degree Programme in Teacher Education

The teaching language in this programme is English. The programme offers selected courses which are available for exchange students.

Studies

Multicultural studies (25 ECTS) is one of the options for exchange students staying a whole  academic year in Tampere. Those taking one semester period can combine their studies on different courses available. The courses taught in English are available in the teaching schedule under the link ‘Free Choice Studies and Competence areas

The School of Education has two international Master’s Degree programmes; Master’s Degree Programme in Teacher Education and Master’s Degree programme in Media Education (in co-operation with the School of Communication, Media and Theatre). Both programmes offer selected courses which are available also for exchange students.

Degree Programme in Educational Studies

At the School of Education of the University of Tampere, students with their various objectives and interests have the option of acquiring a wide education in order to understand the world widely and serve actively as education professionals. There are three subjects for which applications may be made to study in the School:

  • early childhood education
  • class teacher
  • lifelong learning and education.

The Degree Programme in Educational Studies comprises a common Bachelor's programme and Master's studies on education and social research. In Master's studies there are three specialization options, from which students will select one of the following:

  • education and society
  • education and pedagogy
  • education and communication.

Those graduating from early childhood education find placements as kindergarten teachers, pre-school teachers, directors of daycare centres or development tasks in the field.

Those graduating from class teacher education acquire the competence required to serve as class teachers and, depending on the elective subjects they have studied, to serve as subject teachers at the basic level in the Finnish school.

Those graduating from lifelong learning and education can serve in research, in education administration and planning tasks, and in adult education.
