Please note that it is not possible to apply to study Finnish as a Foreign Language exclusively as an exchange or visiting student.
The Finnish Language Courses offered by the Language Centre range from elementary to advanced level and many of them are open to the international exchange and visiting students of the University of Tampere. The requirements vary according to the level of the course.
Please note that the Finnish language courses begin right after the Orientation Week, and you should sign in for the courses beforehand. In order to do so, you will need a Basic User Account BUA, and therefore it is important to register at the University early on during the Orientation Week. If you cannot enrol in time, please go to the first Finnish class to see whether there is room in the group.
For current teaching schedules, please see: http://www.uta.fi/studies/teaching/ or the homepage of the Language Centre at: http://www.uta.fi/laitokset/kielikeskus/in_english/finnish.html.
In the academic year 2010-2011, exchange and visiting students will be offered Survival and Follow up courses in Finnish language. Other courses offered by the Language Centre will only be available to degree students. However, the exchange and visiting students can participate if the number of degree students required for the course to be started will be exceeded and if there are free places left.
The number of courses offered within the International Communication Studies -program (ICS) will also be reduced. Exchange and visiting students are entitled to participate in the ICS courses.
