The academic year at the University of Tampere is divided into two semesters consisting of two periods each. There is a Christmas vacation of three weeks after the second period. Summer vacation runs from the end of the fourth period until the start of the new academic year. The four-period system does not apply to Medicine, in which teaching is organised according to the two-semester system.
