There is an international airport in Tampere. Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is 17 km southwest of the city centre of Tampere. All flights except those of Ryanair arrive at and depart from Terminal 1. The bus line 61 (company: Paunu Oy) runs regularly between Terminal 1 and the centre of Tampere. For timetables, routes and other information, please see: http://www.paunu.fi/english.html. Buses to Terminal 2 (Ryanair flights) are operated by the Tokee company. After each arrival, there is a bus connection from the terminal to the Tampere railway station. The airport taxi to the city centre costs about € 17. A regular taxi to the city centre costs € 30-35.
Flights to Helsinki arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (about 20 km from the city centre of Helsinki). Those landing in Helsinki can take the Finnair bus (the fare is € 6-7) to the Railway Station in Helsinki, then a train to Tampere. Trains run nearly every daytime hour and a single ticket costs € 25-35, depending on the train selected. However, it might be most convenient to take a bus from the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to Tampere: buses (Express bus) leave in front of the terminal. A single ticket costs about € 25. It is also possible to arrive in Finland by ferry from Stockholm, Rostock or Tallinn or by train from St. Petersburg and Moscow. For those arriving in Turku by ferry from Sweden, there is a direct train service available from the port. The journey from Helsinki or from Turku to Tampere takes about two hours (by train or by bus). Once in Tampere, the University Main Building is within walking distance from both the Railway Station and the Bus Station.
