Religious Communities

There is complete freedom of worship in Finland. About 90 % of the Finns belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, another 1.3 % to the Orthodox Church of Finland. Several churches in Tampere offer religious services in different languages, including English, German and Swedish.

  • Sunday Service in English, Old Church (Vanha kirkko), Central Square, every Sunday at 16.00

  • Sunday Service in Swedish, Old Church every Sunday at 10.30

The Lutheran Parishes in Tampere maintain a chapel “Taivaankannen kappeli” at the university in the Pinni B Building (address Kanslerinrinne 1), which serves both the University students and staff. Student work tends to be ecumenically oriented and open minded.

University Chaplain Rev. Risto Korhonen is available for pastoral councelling and also gives more information, e-mail: risto.korhonen (at) uta.fi, tel. 3551 4026.
