Mobile phones (matkapuhelin or kännykkä) are very common in Finland, as you will come to notice. For a mobile phone you will need the device itself plus the connection from one of the nationwide network operators, e.g. dna, Elisa or TeliaSonera Finland. The monthly rental of the connection and the price of the phone call depends on the operator and on the type of agreement with the operator. It is also possible to get a prepaid connection. Check the prices of the calls carefully.
For more information, contact the telephone shops around town. Check the Phone Book’s yellow pages under the title matkapuhelimia. For further information please see
If you want to have a fixed telephone connection in your apartment, you may contact:
Elisa
Address: Hallituskatu 8
Open: Mon–Fri 9.00–18.00, Sat 10.00–15.00
In addition to the installation fee, you will have to buy the telephone
itself, pay the monthly rental and, of course, your phone bills.
You can dial most countries direct from Finland. For a list of these countries, codes and charges, you should check the phone book. There are three several distance companies and their prices vary slightly. Generally, all prices are cheaper at night between 22.00 and 8.00 Finnish time.
An example: A phone call from Rome to the Tampere number 234 5678, dial: +358-3-234 5678.
An example: A phone call to the United Kingdom, London, to the number
234 5678, first dial 00 or 999 or 990 and then 44-20-234 5678.
An example: A phone call from Helsinki to Tampere to number 234 5678,
dial: 03-234 5678.
