Interdisciplinary security studies

Focus
Today the study and practice of the changing nature of security spreads from traditional military threats to economic security, energy and environmental security, human security, ontological security, security of identities, risk management in administration and management, and to many other related themes. In some disciplines terms such as ‘danger', ‘safety' or ‘risk' are used to refer to the changing, enlarged security agenda. The aim of this symposium is to discuss and tackle this multiplicity from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Target group
All interested researchers, including doctoral students, and master's students at the University of Tampere and University of Jyväskylä through University Alliance cooperation. The programme consists of key note lectures and research presentations by visiting senior scholars, and papers presented by doctoral students. The symposium is specifically recommended to students in International Relations and political science, administrative studies, regional studies, or any other social sciences in the widest sense; and to students in the Cross-Border University Programme in International Relations (CBU-IR), ISSS Master's Programme in Global Governance and World Culture/Political Communication.
