Mass Media in Today's Russia: Pluralism or Putinism?

Open lectures by journalist Anna-Lena Laurén (Hufvudstadsbladet) and Dr. Ivan Zassoursky (Moscow State University), comment by Dr. Jukka Pietiläinen (Aleksanteri Institute). The language of the event is English.

Biographical notes:

Anna-Lena Laurén (born 1976) is a Finnish journalist and a writer. She currently works for the Finnish daily Hufvudstadsblated after having spent four years as the Moscow correspondent for the Swedish news service of the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE). She is the author of three books: "De är inte kloka de där ryssarna" (Those Crazy Russians) in 2008, "I bergen finns inga herrar" (The Mountains Have No Masters) in 2009 and "Sedan jag kom till Moskva" (Then I Arrived in Moscow) in 2010. Anna-Lena Laurén is the winner of the Topelius Prize for Swedish-Finnish journalism in 2002.

Dr. Ivan Zassoursky (born 1974) is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University. He is the Head of Department of New Media and Theory of Communication. Dr. Zassoursky's career has included work as a political correspondent, campaign manager and political advisor. He is also the winner of the esteemed Shuvalov prize in 2000 for his book "Mass Media of the Second Republic".
