Recent developments in the political life of the Republic of Moldova: Challenges and perspectives

What do we know about Moldova, except the good wine? Since the change of government in 2009, which was preceded by election riots, Moldova has firmly set its track towards the EU. Simultaneously it is a country in many ways divided between the East and the West, and not least because of the unresolved conflict over the separatist region of Transnistria. In the current situation, a political deadlock has not permitted choosing a new president, and a referendum is being prepared to solve this crisis.

Victoria Boian is Project Coordinator in the Foreign Policy Association of Moldova and third year PhD student at the Moldova State University. Her presentation draws from her research and deals with the changes in the political arena of Moldova, the developments in the relations with the neighbouring countries (Ukraine, Romania) and the relations with the EU and Russia.
