Strategies that create successful companies limit their choices over time and ultimately produce decisions that can damage and destroy them by locking them into historic operating practices, keeping them from perceiving and acting on opportunities, and by limiting their abilities to innovate. Media and  communication companies have a pattern of poor response to change and are particularly vulnerable to problems created by their long, successful histories.
