Affective Landscapes of Running project (Academy of Finland project)
Open research seminar
Nature visits promote wellbeing. Exercise is good for your health. Combining exercise with health promoting environments sounds like a perfect fix to alleviate problems of public health in contemporary sedentary societies. This raises the question: What can be done to promote exercise in particular places and settings? Addressing the question requires a better understanding of the linkages between different forms of exercise and the settings in which they take place. For example, how do people undertake practices and form habits of physical activity in everyday life? How do they attach to doing exercise in particular places and environments? How do different aspects of the environment affect the routines, practices or mental and physical experiences of exercise?
The open research seminar Exercise, Environment and Everyday Life taps into these questions by bringing together people and ideas from different disciplines and perspectives and seeks to find useful links between them.
The seminar includes presentations by Marketta Kyttä (Professor of Land Use Planning, Aalto University), Russell Hitchings (Senior Lecturer in Human Geography, University College London), Samu Pehkonen (University Researcher, School of Social Sciences, University of Tampere), Silviya Korpilo (Doctoral Student, Urban Ecology, Aalto University), Tytti Pasanen (Doctoral Student, Environmental Psychology, University of Tampere) and Jarkko Bamberg (Postdoctoral Researcher, Environmental Policy, University of Tampere).
