Bayesian Modeling of Activities and Profiles (BMAP): A case study in computer-supported collaborative learning

Goals

The BMAP -project is funded by the Finnish Work Environment Fund.

The project studies the relationships between university level adult learners' 1) learning outcomes, 2) actions in various customized online learning environments and 3) profiles (learning motivation, learning strategies and social abilities) with Bayesian methods.

The project has three major research questions:

1. Are differences in learner's profiles statistically related to differences their in learning outcomes?
2. Are learner's actions in online learning environment during the course related to their learning outcomes?
3. Are learner's actions in online learning environment during the course related to differences in their profiles?

Researchers

Professor Pekka Ruohotie

Ph.D., professor of vocational education, director of Research Centre for Vocational Education, University of Tampere, Finland. He has an extensive experience of teaching in vocational schools of the industry, acting as the head researcher at large corporations, as well as personnel developer and a consultant of the management. Professor Ruohotie is an educator of teachers and a developer of education since 1977.

Petri Nokelainen

Ph.D., special researcher at the Research Centre for Vocational Education, University of Tamperee, Finland. He is the pricipal investigator of MoVE project. His research interest lies on the study of applied statistical modeling, various issues related to professional growth, modern network-based learning and gifted education.
