Seppo Hölttä

Dr Seppo Hölttä is a professor of higher education administration and finance at University of Tampere. He is the founder and head of the Higher Education Group at the School of Management. His specialisation covers the issues of management and leadership of universities, higher education policy and higher education finance. He has an extensive international experience and he has been working at various universities in the United States, Japan and Africa in addition to working with European universities. He has been cooperating with top Chinese research universities for more than ten years and worked as a guest professor at BNU and Beijing University of Technology. He has been the academic director of the training programme for Chinese university leaders, a programme organised in partnership between Universityof Tampere and National Academy of Education Administration NAEA.

Cai Yuzhuo

Yuzhuo Cai

Yuzhuo Cai is a senior lecturer and adjunct professor at the Higher Education Group (HEG), School of Management, University of Tampere, Finland, and was the acting professor of the unit from August 2013 to July 2014. He is a guest professor at the Institute of International and Comparative Education, Beijing Normal University, China and the co-convener of the Thematic Research Group on ‘Entrepreneurial Universities’ in the Triple Helix Association. He has not only years of working experience in both Chinese and Finnish educational organisations, but has also been engaging in Sino-Finnish education cooperation for more than 10 years. He is one of the founding members of the Chinese Education Research and Exchange Centre (CEREC) at the University of Tampere established in 2011 and the board member of Sino-Finnish Joint Institute of Learning Innovation established in 2016. He has had substantial achievement in the research on Sino-Finnish comparative education research and Sino-Finnish education cooperation. In addition, his main teaching and research areas are organization theory, higher education policy and management, internationalization of higher education and innovation studies, with extensive publications in these fields, including 6 books and over 50 peer reviewed articles.


Anja Heikkinen

Anja Heikkinen

Anja Heikkinen is Professor of education in the School of Education, University of Tampere, Finland. Her research and teaching has focused on transformation of vocational and adult education, from historical and cross-cultural perspective, often with view on sex-distinctions and equality. She has been active in national and international research projects, associations and networks ofnvocational and adult education, and on history of education, and has coordinated the research network Vocational Education and Culture since early 1990s. She is currently engaged in projects such as Freedom and Responsibility in Popular Adult Education, Promoting Regional Wellbeing through Adult and Vocational Education, and chairing the research group Equality and Planetary Justice in Adult, Vocational and Higher Education.

Merja Sinkkonen

Principal Lecturer, Head of Master's Degree Programme

Merja Sinkkonen is a Principal Lecturer and Head of Master’s Degree Programme in the Tampere University of Applied Sciences. She specializes in Social Sciences and Leadership. Sinkkonen has published numerous articles in esteemed scientific journals, and has garnered many awards for her excellent work, for example the title of ‘Municipal researcher of the year’ in 2006. Her career as a teacher began in 1991. At the moment, Sinkkonen is in charge of several courses in Tampere University of Applied Sciences, and she has received excellent feedback from her students. According to Sinkkonen’s Educational Philosophy, student is an active agent, and the role of the teacher is first and foremost to motivate people to learn.

 Po Yang

Po Yang

Associate Professor

Po Yang is an associate professor at the Graduate School of Education, Peking University, and a research fellow at China Institute of Education Finance Research, Peking University. She serves as the vice president of China Association of Education Finance Research, and has been working as consultant for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Ford Foundation. Her main teaching and research areas of economics of education, education finance, and vocational and technical education reform evaluation. She has working experiences in leading research universities in the U.S.A., and the Netherlands. Since 2014, she has visited Finnish universities and ministries in order to promoting Finnish experiences of developing universities of applied sciences in China. She has published in peer reviewed SSCI journals and received research grants from China’s National Science Foundation and Ministry of Education.
