Registration for the NordMedia 2017 conference is open now!  

Dear Recipient,  

Congratulations, your abstract/panel session proposal has been accepted to NordMedia 2017 conference!  
Unfortunately, we have run into some technical issues when sending the acceptance letters. If you have not received your acceptance letter yet, please check your junk mail. In case the acceptance letter has not reached you, please contact us as soon as possible: ilmari.hiltunen [at]

Early Bird registration is open now  

Early bird registration for the conference is open from 5th of April until 15th of May 2017.   

Please register yourself or a group using this form:  

Participation fees   

Early bird: 400 EUR (450 EUR from May 15 onwards)  

PhD students: 300 EUR   


The participation fee(s) is paid when registering for the event. The payment is to be made either with a credit card, PayPal or via online banking (no additional charges). You can also choose invoicing as your payment method, in which case an invoicing fee of 20 EUR will be added to the total. More information on the registration form. 

NB! Online banking is only available for participants with a Finnish bank account. Invoicing is only available for participants from Finnish organisations.   

NB! UTA Staff member: Before filling in the registration form, please make sure that you have at hand the information on the cost unit or the project number for the internal transfer procedure of the registration fee.  
Cancellation policy  

For cancellations received by 4 August 2017, the paid registration fees will be fully refunded, except for the possible invoicing fee. No refund will be issued for cancellations made after this date. No refunds will be made for no-shows. Participation that has already been registered can be transferred to another person from the same organisation without any extra charge. Cancellations and requests for refunds and registration transfers must always be made by e-mail to nordmedia2017 [at]

Travelling to Tampere   

Tampere is located in southern Finland, 175 km north of Helsinki. There are excellent flight connections to Helsinki from all parts of the world. Tampere is easily accessible from Helsinki by train or long-distance bus. There are also several daily connecting flights to Tampere.

Where to stay?  

Conference participants are asked to make their own hotel reservations and pay for their own accommodation. Pre-reservations have been made to the nearby hotels listed on our website, but the availability of the rooms can only be guaranteed for a limited time. Please check the deadlines and booking codes for reservations mentioned in each hotel information.  

Submissions of full papers  

Please submit your final paper or extended abstract (max 7 000 words) using the form below by 30th of June 2017.  

Pre-Conference for doctoral students 

The NordMedia 2017 pre-conference for doctoral students will be held on August 16th at the University of Tampere.  

It is an all-day event that includes academic workshop for doctoral students in media and communication studies. The program of the workshop holds discussions and presentations with experienced scholars around topics concerning dissertation writing, methodology, publishing, and more. The workshop offers a great chance to share research projects and ideas, and address common challenges with experts and other students alike.

Radio Moreeni serves as the official conference radio  

NordMedia 2017 cooperates with Radio Moreenia local radio station owned by the University of Tampere. Radio Moreeni will broadcast the keynote lectures, the panel discussion and interviews during and before the conference.
