Women’s Network III International Workshop: Sharing Experiences

16th - 18 th November, University  of Tampere, Finland

ECREA Women’s Network works to assess the actual situation of gender in European communication research, within universities, polytechnics, colleges, and research centres. WN bases its activity upon the concrete problems and questions raised during national and international conferences, real and virtual academic meetings, and political discussions in general. Such problems and questions, however, still escape the attention of (or are perhaps avoided by) larger institutional studies, comprehensive political actions, and thorough social and cultural reflections.

The Women’s Network III International Workshop: Sharing Experiences intends to approach issues of gender in communication related academia under an inter-disciplinary and inter-cultural perspective, in order to grant visibility to women from every social background, age, ethnicity, and orientation. The exchange of ideas will improve the development of expertise and insights across borders, as well as the effective discussion and comparison of case studies, methodologies and materials. Therefore, this Workshop is determined to come up with innovative reality-based conclusions, inferred from the “shared experiences”, thus rendering the actual situation of women in academia visible and, as a result, facilitate their institutional participation.

The Women’s Network III International Workshop: Sharing Experiences will discuss theories and practices of gender discrimination, that stereotypically operate in the academic world and help to explain the situation of women in many European universities, as well as the measures of equality that have been implemented to promote the advancement of women in academic careers. For that reason, the Workshop welcomes the discussion of empirical as well as of theoretical studies on equal opportunities, policies and practices, if possible under a comparative, intercultural approach.
