Postgraduate Studies at the School of Communication, Media and Theatre

The School of Communication, Media and Theathre (CMT) offers instruction in the following disciplines:
Journalism and Mass Communication
Theatre Work
Speech Communication
Theatre and Drama Research.

All four disciplines study reality and construct performances of reality. Graduates work in public professions which require tangible skills, involve a societal aspect and approach communication through meaning – as pictures, words and stories.

The objective of the doctoral programme at the School of Communication, Media and Theatre is to train professionals who are qualified to work in demanding research and teaching posts in universities or in other professional positions that require a profound theoretical and methodological knowledge of the field. For instance, graduates may work in private organisations, higher education management, cultural management, arts management or scientific governance.

At CMT, postgraduate students apply for the right to study the subject they wish to major in. CMT offers the following postgraduate degrees:

  • Licentiate of Social Sciences and Doctor of Social Sciences in Journalism and Mass Communication
  • Licentiate of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in Speech Communication and Voice Research
  • Licentiate of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in Theatre and Drama Research
  • Licentiate of Arts (Theatre and Drama) and Doctor of Arts (Theatre and Drama) in Theatrical Arts
