Degree Programme in Journalism and Communication

Degree Programme in Journalism and Communication

The subjects taught on the Degree Programme in Journalism and Communication deal with journalism, public appearance and the research of these.  This constitutes the point of departure for teaching and collaboration between subjects.

The degree programme offers the scientific and practical skills to work as a journalist, photojournalist and media expert.  Students on the programme can also engage in oral communication, media culture and the research of theatre and drama, at both Bachelor's and Master's levels.  The studies equip students for work in expert and educational tasks in the subjects concerned.  Studies in oral communication also open up opportunities to enter the field of personnel development.

When applying, all students apply through the same route. Studies in photojournalism and speech communication have their own selection paths, however.  Students will receive the right to study for the Bachelor's and Master's degrees.  Bachelor's studies lead to the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences, while Master's studies lead either to the degree of Master of Social Sciences or Master of Arts.

Basic studies and research studies are common to all.  Basic studies are also open to students on other degree programmes. Intermediate studies comprise studies in 1) journalistic work and 2) communication and media.  Studies in journalistic work divide into those in journalism, media culture, research of theatre and drama and also speech communication.  Intermediate studies are open to students of other schools if space in groups only permits.

During their Bachelor's studies students will opt for Master's studies in journalism, visual journalism, speech communication, research of theatre and drama or media culture.  Selection will be based on students' earlier studies.  Special criteria may also be imposed for Master's studies.

For exchange students: Courses in English 2015-2016.
