Duties

I have worked as a researcher at COMET and its predecessor JRDC since 2007. Currently, my main task is to conduct research towards a PhD in the Faculty of Communication Sciences on recent changes in Finnish political journalism. I am supervised by Professor Risto Kunelius, and funding is secured until October 2017 by a grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation.

In addition to the dissertation, I am involved with two projects at COMET. First, colleague Heikki Heikkilä and I are analysing the impact of Wikileaks on mainstream journalism in three different countries: Finland, Sweden and the UK.

Secondly, I am a part of the extensive Worlds of Journalism project where I am investigating Finnish journalists' professional and ethical values as well as work conditions alongside colleagues Laura Ahva and Reeta Pöyhtäri.

Besides researching, I have also worked as a board member of the Tampere University Association of Reseachers and Teachers (2012–2015) and as an instructor in some lifelong education projects run by the research centre.

Research

My research interests lie in political journalism, journalism change in its many ways, and crisis/disaster journalism.
