Tampere is 180 kilometres northwest from Helsinki. It is easy and fast to get to Tampere by air, by bus or by train. There are several daily flights to Finland from the major cities in Europe. The purpose of the net mobile Netti-Nysse is to encourage the residents of Tampere to start using the computer and the Internet and give them the initial instruction necessary to do so. Groups of neighbours, clubs, societies- any group of people who want to learn use the computer and the Internet can book the Netti-Nysse and have it come to their own neighbourhood. Basic instruction is 8 hours and is free of charge.
A good atmosphere and good individual support get lots of positive feedback. Clear, understandable language and a spirit of encouragement and empowerment play an important role. Netti-Nysse also takes part in various events and arranges open house days.
The City of Tampere, together with its diverse partners, is building a brand new Internet bus in order to carry on the service and to widen the service area and content.
