On May 18-20 2005 the Center for North American Studies at the University of Tampere will celebrate its 20th anniversary by organizing the tenth multidisciplinary Tampere American Studies Conference on the theme Democratic Values: Past, Present and Future. The structure of the conference will be organized around keynote lectures by distinguished speakers and theme-sessions organized for scholars in American Studies and all related disciplines and specifically Ph.D. students and post-doctoral scholars.

In 2005 we aim for a truly cross-disciplinary conference with speakers and students from the fields of (but not limited to) leadership and management, history, literature, linguistics, sociology, political science, media ethics and gender studies.

The venue for the conference will be University of Tampere, the home for the Center for North American Studies, and its new facilities built in 2003.
