Some facts about the University of Tampere

History
1925 founded in Helsinki and called Civic College
1930 name officially changed to School of Social Sciences
1960 relocated to Tampere
1966 officially named University of Tampere
1974 became a state university

Studies
Six faculties: Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Economics and Administration, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Information Sciences some 15,200 degree students, 12,500 taking first degrees, some 1,900 postgraduates and 800 other students
16,000 students annually in continuing education
2004 intake approx. 1,700 new students
2003 degrees taken 1,514, of which approx. 1,000 first degrees
some 700 foreign students
