| In Malawi, UTA-DIH
collaborates with the Department of Community Health, College
of Medicine, University of Malawi to form the Tampere University
Mother & Child Health Project in Malawi (TUMCHP).
Most field research is carried out in Lungwena, which is
a rural area of some 100 square kilometres and approximately
17 000 inhabitants. The project has an office at the Lungwena
Training Health Centre, that provides basic health care to
the local population and functions as a rural training site
for Malawian health professionals.
