EDU-luennot keväällä 2013

Kasvatustieteiden yksikön EDU-luennot jatkuvat keväällä 2013. Ajankohtaisista kasvatustieteen alueen aiheista kertovat sekä yksikkömme oma henkilöstö että kotimaiset ja kansainväliset vieraamme. Luentosarjan tiedot täydentyvät ajan mittaan. Luennot alkavat akateemisen vartin mukaisesti, mikäli luennon ohessa ei erityisesti muista alkamisajankohdista ilmoiteta. Intro: This lecture discusses both historical and contemporary cases that illustrate the ways governments of different countries employ universities in development efforts in terms of foreign aid. Universities have been involved in both foreign aid and foreign policy since the end of the 19th century. France, Germany, and the United Kingdom became the first countries to enhance their national universities to implement various political, cultural, economic, and social projects in the Middle East and Africa. They were followed by the United States and the Soviet Union. Both exploited national universities in order expand its ideological influence globally during the Cold War. Today, various countries have greatly reinvigorated their work with national universities in terms of new contributions to political, cultural, and social development assistance abroad. The United States, the European Union, China, Iran, and others involve higher education in foreign aid programs and strengthen their presence in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, and Latin America. What are the main political imperatives for development assistance in foreign countries? What do our universities do abroad in terms of foreign aid and foreign policy? In order to answer these questions, this lecture offers a brief debate centered on the concepts of neo-Marxism, neoliberalism, constructivism, cultural imperialism, dependency theory, response theory, and so forth.

Theoretical foundations of teacher leadership

In recent years, the Western ideologies on decentralized leadership has gained its popularity in Chinese societies that have traditionally relied on highly centralized leadership in which power is located in the person of the school principal or other unit leader. Teacher leadership can be understood as an example of decentralized leadership. This presentation focuses on discussing the three key concepts of teacher leadership including change agent, collaboration and power in decision-making. The term “change agent” refers to those individuals or groups of individuals who are charged with responsibilities for leading change in school settings’. Collaboration refers as a continuum of interpersonal relationships running from independence to interdependence. Power in decision-making refers to the exercise of structural authority, and influence in such processes. The presentation also explores the implications of applying these concepts of teacher leadership in a Chinese context. Specifically, teacher leadership in early childhood education in Hong Kong is used an illustrative case. It suggests that change agent, collaboration, and power in decision-making are key aspects of discourse on teacher leadership in a Chinese, policy driven context. It is argued that existing studies of leadership have failed to recognize the complexity of employing teacher leadership in hierarchical, policy driven, high power distance, and collectivist cultural contexts.

Intro: Analysoin esitelmässä opinnäytteen ohjauksen vuorovaikutuksen tilanteita, joissa yhdistyy tekstistä annettava palaute, ohjaajan toistuva, vahvistuva kritiikki ohjattavalle ja sitä myöten ”ymmärtämisongelman” käsittely. Kuvaan paperissani näiden tilanteiden dynamiikkaa ja osoitan vuorovaikutuksellisia syitä sille, että ne kumuloituvat eli toimijoiden keskinäinen ei-ymmärtäminen kasautuu ja pysyy yllä.

Millaista osaamista tiedonhankinta ja tiedonhaku edellyttää? Miten opiskelijat kokevat tiedonhankinnan, mikä siinä tuottaa epävarmuutta ja ahdistusta? Miten ohjaaja voi auttaa opiskelijaa tiedonhankinnassa?
Miten käsitteet, ilmaisut, ja merkkijonot liittyvät tiedonhakuun? Entäpä semanttinen kolmio ja käsitteen [käsite]?
Miten Google toimii konepellin alla? Mikä on informaatiohorisontti ja miten sitä voi käyttää opiskelijoiden ohjauksellisena työkaluna?
Onkos tässä nyt jotain uutta - kaikkihan tietoa osaa hankkia ja käyttää Googlea, wikipediaa, eLehtiä, eKirjoja, Tamcattia ja Nelliä!
Miksi näistä asioista ei puhuta mitään opettajankoulutuksessa vaan opettajat joutuvat ohjaamaan oppilaiden laajoja itsenäistä tiedonhankintaa vaativia tehtäviä 3, 5, 6, 8, 9 luokilla perusopetuksessa, saati sitten toisella asteella ja korkeakouluissa?
Tiedonhankintaa tukevat oppimistehtävät - "aiheesi on metsä ja puu" tai "aiheesi on maailmankaikkeus - palauta tutkielmasi 2 viikon kuluttua" -vai miten se menikään?

Director of UNESCO Observatory for Research in Local Cultures and Creativity in Education)

Conceptions of what constitute creativity have been propounded and debated for many years. Novelty, originality, unexpectedness, appropriateness and usefulness are some of the desirable attributes of work produced by people's creative ability. A popular stereotype sees Easterners to be less creative, being more imitative than inventive. In reality, novelty and individualism are emphasized by Westerners while Easterners value usefulness and social harmony. Csikszentmihalyi (1994) asserts that the ‘concept' of creativity cannot be studied or measured without addressing the parameters of the cultural symbol system in which the creative activity takes place and the social roles and norms that regulate the given creative activity. This presentation will discuss misconceptions of Chinese creativity and the influence of culture on creativity.
