FACULTY OF EDUCATION

The Faculty of Education in the University of Tampere is a research and  learning community exploring and analysing changes in education and  society.

The Faculty participates in building the idea of learning society in national and global scale by offering degree programmes for prospective educational professionals with top-quality societal and cultural expertise.

The Faculty of Education promotes research which contributes to the basic understanding of conditions and possibilities of education in a time of global change. The Faculty provides research-based basic and postgraduate education as well as continuing education.

Teaching professionals

Students of the Faculty of Education study to become teachers, educators and experts of education. Our learning community appreciates dialogue and encourages students to engage in extensive and critical thinking.

Besides schools and educational institutes demand for expertise in education exists in other public services and business. The Faculty of Education offers its students the possibility to become qualified, for example, as

  • class and subject teacher
  • kindergarten teacher
  • expert of education in public or private sector
  • expert of speech technique and vocology

University of Tampere Teacher Training School is located in Nekala neighbourhood of the city of Tampere (on the map see http://goo.gl/maps/WwnXE and http://goo.gl/maps/IMBpE). Besides teacher training the Teacher Training School is active in research and development.

Education and society

The research of the Faculty of Education focuses on change in society, work life and educational environments and the role of educational activities within the change.

Together the members of the Faculty of Education learning community - researchers, teachers and students - promote the study and developing of the basics and practices of education in the society.  As experts they participate in political debate on education and strengthening of civil society.
