EDU’s Research Community

Our research community is home to critical, accomplished, and socially and culturally aware professionals. The expertise of our educational community covers, among other things, early childhood education, basic education, vocational education, adult education, higher education, lifelong learning and voice and speech training.

EDU's research is organised in research groups. Each group has researchers at every stage of research career. Our research community operates at a regional, national and international level and across disciplines. We encourage collegiality, activeness and participation in our work and believe that together we are greater than the sum of our parts.

Our Faculty also coordinates the operations of the Research Centre on Transnationalism and Transformation (TRANSIT). TRANSIT is a multi-disciplinary network organisation focusing on transformation processes arising in the increasingly interconnected and mobile world.

Societal impact of our research

The results from research, projects and development activities as well as the fruits of EDU’s artistic activities influence society and the way we treat and raise children in day care or teach at schools, universities and other higher education institutions. We also look for ways to prevent and solve problems related to training, education, teaching and learning, and conduct research to prevent social exclusion and find ways to better commit students to their studies and learning.

The Teacher Training School of the University of Tampere is a testing and development site for EDU’s projects. Research at the Teacher Training School typically means a development project in a certain subject; longer collaboration projects are carried out together with the teacher education programme of our Faculty of Education and/or with other Finnish and international universities.
