Anna-Kaisa Ikonen ja Ilkka Haukijärvi

The Tampere3 Project Director’s duties will be divided between two appointees, as the current position holder moves onto new challenges. The Strategic Steering Committee has appointed Anna-Kaisa Ikonen as the Director of Tampere3 Renewal and Ilkka Haukijärvi as the Director of Project Development.

Director of Tampere3 Renewal Anna-Kaisa Ikonen will be responsible for directing the project, serving as the presenting official at Board meetings, and for establishing closer collaboration with stakeholders.   Tampere3 Director of Project Development Ilkka Haukijärvi will be responsible for overall project management. The two new appointees will work together as a team.

Doctor of Social Sciences Anna-Kaisa Ikonen holds an appointment as Professor of Practice in the Faculty of Management at the University of Tampere. She is also the Chair of Tampere City Council. Ikonen has previously worked, among others, as the Mayor of Tampere, Deputy Mayor of Tampere, and as State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. Ikonen will hold her professorship on a part-time basis and split her working hours between her two positions.

“It is an honour to join a project that is so important not only in terms of our region but also the entire higher education landscape in Finland. The position of the Director of Tampere3 Renewal is both challenging and inspiring,” Ikonen says.

PhD Ilkka Haukijärvi works as Director of Digitalization and Knowledge Management at Tampere University of Applied Sciences. His key areas of expertise include the digitalization of higher education, quality management, the development of student and customer experiences, information and knowledge management, organizational learning, and strategic management.

Ikonen and Haukijärvi will take up their new appointments by the end of January, as the current Tampere3 Project Director Marianne Kukko gradually moves on to new challenges in the private sector. To ensure a smooth transition for her successors, Kukko will remain available for consultation on a part-time basis over the next few weeks.

“On behalf of the Board of Tampere University Foundation, I want to thank Marianne for her excellent work and wish her all the best in her future endeavours. It is wonderful that Anna-Kaisa Ikonen and Ilkka Haukijärvi have been able to come on board on such a short notice,” says Marja Makarow, Chair of Tampere University Foundation’s Board.
