The University of Tampere is the first university in Finland in terms of number of citations in peer-reviewed publications. This was the result of the World University Rankings 2018 conducted by the Times Higher Education newspaper (THE).

In the overall rankings, the University of Tampere improved its position and was ranked in places 201-250 among the world’s universities, which was an improvement from last year when UTA was ranked in places 251-300. In the overall rankings, UTA placed third among the Finnish universities.

However, in the number of citations, which is used in the THE ranking to reflect universities’ research influence, the University of Tampere came the first in Finland and the 120th in the world.

Apart from teaching and research, the number of citations is one of the three most important pillars in the Times Higher Education rankings. Each of these accounts for 30 per cent of the outcome of the rankings.
