Every year around ten thousand people apply to study at the University of Tampere; only approximately one in ten secures a place to study. Freedom of choice in minor subjects is one of the University's strengths and serves to increase its popularity among applicants.
The awards received by the University for the education it provides, the feedback from those employing its graduates, the placements of its graduates in working life and their satisfaction with their degree programmes prove that the University has indeed accomplished its educational mission.
Continuing education is an integral part of the University's core operations and is strategically significant for the interaction of research, teaching in degree studies and the surrounding society. There is also the option to take university studies through the open university and as a supernumerary student. Thus the University offers people the opportunity for lifelong learning.
