
The supreme executive body of the University is the University Board. The Board has 11 members, six from within the University and five from outside. Of the members from within the University community two are professors, two are from the teaching and other personnel and two are representatives of the students. The external members are chosen by the University Collegiate Body.
The Rector directs the activities of the University and processes and resolves matters pertaining to its general administration. The Rector is elected by an electoral college of the University to serve for a five-year term.
The Chancellor promotes science and scholarship, looks after the general interests of the University and supervises its activities. The Chancellor's duties moreover include the appointment of professors and adjunct professors.
Led by the Director of Administration, the mission of the University Services is to support and assist University units in the performance of their core functions and in organising the administration.
For an administrative body including numerous members the term of office is three years. Student members and their reserves are elected for one academic year at a time by the Student Union of the University of Tampere.
