Applying for Doctoral Studies in autumn 2012

The University of Tampere Doctoral School declares open positions for studies leading to doctor or licentiate degrees in autumn 2012. The application period is from 15 October to 15 November 2012 at 3.45 p.m. (Finnish time) by which the applications must have reached the appropriate School. The right to study begins in the spring semester 2013 at the latest.

Below you will find the list and the intake of those Schools which take part in the joint application round in autumn 2012. Application information of other Schools (EDU, IBT, MED) is on their own web pages.

The applications are to be delivered to the Schools in question. The doctoral programmes and the doctoral education committees of the Schools will be responsible for the details of student selection. More specific application instructions and forms can be found from the School's own doctoral education web pages (direct links below).

NB! Admittance and being granted the status of a doctoral student does not automatically include funding.

School of Information Sciences

In the autumn 2012:

the Doctoral programme in Information and Systems will accept max. 13 students,
the Doctoral programme in Information Studies and Interactive Media will accept max. 4 students,
the Doctoral programme in Interactive Technology will accept max. 6 students,
altogether max. 23 students.

School of Management

At the School of Management students can apply for studies leading to Licentiate/Doctor of Social Sciences, Licentiate/Doctor of Administrative Sciences or Licentiate/Doctor of Social Sciences. In the autumn 2012 The Doctoral Programme of School of Management will accept max. 15 students.

School of Language and Translation studies

In the autumn 2012:

The Doctoral Programme in Language Studies will accept 0-2 students
The Doctoral Programme in Literary Studies will accept 0-2 students

School of Health Sciences

In the autumn 2012 max. 20 new students will be admitted to the doctoral programmes:

- Doctoral Programme in Health Sciences
- Doctoral Programme in Medicine

School of Communication, Media and Theatre

At the School of Communication, Media and Theatre the applications are directed to the Doctoral Programme of Communication, Media and Theatre. The programme includes all the subjects and disciplines of the School in which the doctoral degree can be awarded. In autumn 2012 the Doctoral Programme will accept max. 6 students.

School of Social Sciences and Humanities

In the autumn 2012, approximately 15 new students will be admitted to the doctoral programmes, as follows:
the doctoral programme in Philosophy 1-2 students
the doctoral programme in History 2-4 students
the doctoral programme in Psychology and Logopaedics 2-3 students
the doctoral programme in Social Sciences 9-10 students

The doctoral programme in Social Sciences includes the following disciplines: Music Studies, Sociology, Social Anthropology, Social Policy, Social Psychology, Social Work, Gender Studies and the research field of Peace and Conflict Studies.
