Asian Studies (35 ECTS) is meant as an introductory study module for everyone interested in Asia. The module is open to all degree students in the four higher education institutions in Tampere: the University of Tampere, Tampere University of Technology, TAMK University of Applied Sciences and PIRAMK University of Applied Sciences.
Modules in Asian Studies introduce students to, for example, contemporary Asian cultures, societies, politics, economies, and media. In addition to these modules, students can take up to 10 ECTS credits of Chinese or Japanese. The whole study module is 35 ECTS credits, but students can choose only some of the modules according to their timetables and requirements of their home university. The minimum amount of credits that students can choose is 5 ECTS.
Teaching in the Asian Studies will begin in the autumn 2008, and the whole study block will be taught within a year and a half. It is also possible to compensate the courses with book exams.
The number of selected students is 60, 15 from each institution. The selection criteria are the following:
