Molecular Biology and Global Health Challenges - Public symposium on 6 September

Great strides have recently been made in medical research, clarifying underlying biological mechanisms of the most important health threats worldwide. However, the application of this knowledge to global welfare is, at best, patchy. Regional health gaps are huge and epidemics continue to cause devastation. The lack of effective means to translate discovery into real health benefits globally frustrates the efforts of policymakers, clinicians and others working in the field.

The public symposium "Molecular Biology and Global Health Challenges" brings together leaders of biomedical research and education, funding organizations, pharmaceutical industry and inter-governmental and non-governmental agencies, to discuss and define a strategy for successful merger of scientific innovation, business, and global social development.

The event will take place in Tampere, Finland, in the main auditorium of Tampere Hall. The organizers include the University of Tampere, the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), Tampere Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the City of Tampere. At the same time the venue will also host two associated meetings, namely 13th Annual EMBO Members' Workshop - Frontiers of Molecular Biology and the 2nd Tampere Symposium for Global Health Research.
