A national energy conservation week (6–12 October) has been declared at national level and the University of Tampere will be taking part.
“We want to do our bit for Energy Saving Week because the University is a large organisation with a fast turnover in people. It's the right thing to do to send a message at least once a year about how you can save energy. In Energy Saving Week there will be publicity support on a national level for the University's effort”, says environmental coordinator Saana Raatikainen.
“It is also worth bearing in mind that there are many sides to energy conservation, not only saving electricity, but also on food, transportation and consumption”, she continues.
The aim of Energy Saving Week is to raise awareness of what each one of us can do to conserve energy. Energy Saving Week has been held for over ten years in Finland and every year hundreds of companies and organisations take part.
Ecocampus will take part by issuing bulletins, topical press releases and by holding a secondhand book fair on Thursday 9 October. Throughout the week energy related messages will pop up on screen when students and personnel open their workstations. Moreover, there will be evening checkups in the various buildings of the University. The house managers will be making rounds of the premises and taking note of lights and equipment not properly switched off. The results of these checkups will be publicised afterwards.
