The Nordic Centre at Fudan University offers for students of the University of Tampere study places in two INTRODUCTION TO MODERN CHINA summer courses, organised in Shanghai, China on 6 - 24 July 2009. The topics of the courses, which are suitable for both Bachelor's and Master's students, are "Chinese Politics and Society" and "Chinese Politics and Economy". The University of Tampere will have at least 3 places altogether on the courses.
One of the courses will concentrate mainly on Chinese history and culture while the other course concentrates on politics and economy. The language of instruction in the courses is English, no knowledge of Chinese is required. The course is free of charge, but students are responsible for covering their own accommodation and living costs as well as any compulsory insurance fees themselves. Accommodation in a shared room for two costs approximately 80 RMB/day. Students selected to the summer courses receive a travel grant from the University of Tampere.

Applicants: Students of all fields who have completed at least two academic years of successful studies at the University of Tampere (by the end of the academic year 2008-2009). The courses are best suited for students of history, international relations and economics.
Applications: The application, to be written in English, is free form and should include the student's motivation for taking the summer course. As enclosures, the application must include a Curriculum Vitae and a transcript of academic records in English. (The transcript does not need to be official, it is possible to send it in pdf format from NettiOpsu to your own e-mail address and then print it out as an enclosure.) The application documents must be delivered to the International Office (Main Building, room A129) by Monday 9 February 2008 by 3 pm. The students' selection is confirmed finally by the Nordic Centre.
