Prospective Rectors from inside the University

All those announcing their willingness to undertake the work of Rectors are professors in the University of Tampere.

There are six (6) candidates. Of these, two have indicated that they are only willing to undertake the tasks of the Rector, three to undertake the tasks of either the Rector or of a Vice Rector and one to undertake only the tasks of a Vice Rector.

	Professor Juhani Lehto (social and health policy) has announced his candidacy as Rector only. He is currently a Vice Rector of the University. Proposed Vice Rector candidates Professor Pertti Haapala and Professor Kaija Holli, also Professor Harri Melin.
	Professor Jyrki Nummenmaa (computer science) has announced his candidacy as Rector only. He is currently Dean of the Faculty of Information Sciences. Proposed Vice Rector candidates Professor Jukka Havu and Professor Kaija Holli.
	Professor Pertti Haapala (Finnish history) has announced his candidacy as either Rector or Vice Rector. Proposed Vice Rector candidates Professor Kaija Holli and Professor Harri Melin.
	Professor Kaija Holli (palliative medicine) has announced her candidacy as either Rector or Vice Rector. Professor Holli is currently head of the Medical School. Proposed Vice Rector candidates Professor Pertti Haapala and Professor Harri Melin.
	Professor Harri Melin (sociology) has announced his candidacy as either Rector or Vice Rector. Professor Melin is currently Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Proposed Vice Rector candidates Professor Kaija Holli and Professor Pertti Haapala.
	Professor Jukka Havu (French language) has announced his candidacy as Vice Rector only. Professor Havu is currently Head of the School of Modern Languages and Translation Studies. Professor Havu is proposed as Vice Rector by Professor Jyrki Nummenmaa.

There will be a live appearance by the candidates and a chance to hear them on Wednesday 21 January at 14.15 in Lecture Theatre D 10a (Main Building). This is open to all members of the University community. The occasion will continue with the Student Union panel for prospective rectors at 17.15 in the same lecture theatre.
