Announcing places to study on courses of the Nordic Centre in India (NCI) Consortium

Application period starts 15 February 2009 and ends 23 March 2009

The Nordic Centre in India (NCI) is a consortium consisting of 20 Nordic universities dedicated to promoting research on India and collaboration between Indian and Nordic universities.  In summer 2009 the NCI is to arrange four courses in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai.  Each member university is entitled to nominate 4 candidates and 4 substitutes for each course.

Course fee:  the participation fee is INR 60,000 or 65,000 (952 € or 1,032 €  11.2.2009 rate) and covers tuition and living costs including accommodation.  Students will be expected to arrive at the course venue about two days before the course begins in order to become acclimatised and accustomed to local conditions.

Grants: Students enrolled at the University of Tampere are eligible for a travel grant of at least 500 Euros for those courses which can be included in their degree programmes, when the course is arranged by the Consortium in which the University of Tampere belongs.

Method of application:  Course participants will be expected to have completed at least two years of university studies and to be proficient in English for academic purposes.  Students may apply for two courses but are required to indicate which of them is their first choice.

Applications in English should be submitted in the applicants' own words and should include their reasons for wishing to study in India (including an explanation of how the course in question is linked to the applicant's other studies and on Master's programmes a recommendation from the student's HOPS tutor).  Enclosures required with the application include a Curriculum Vitae (CV) in English and a study record.  The study record need not be official; a pdf printout can be sent to the e-mail address from NettiOpsu and printed out as an enclosure.

Application documents must reach the Department of Academic and International Affairs, Room A 129 in the Main Building by 15.00 on 23 March 2009.  Decisions regarding study places will be taken by the Head of the Department of Academic and International Affairs.
