There was a distinct rise in the number of international students at the University of Tampere in 2008: incoming students numbered 454, the corresponding figure for 2007 being 406. This figure includes those arriving under various auspices and remaining at the University for and exchange period of at least three months. There has been a steady increase in incoming international students over the last ten years.
Students coming on exchange were mostly from Germany (20.3%), Poland (10.4%), France (8.1%), China (6.8%) and Spain (6.4%).
Numbers of outgoing students over the last ten years have zigzagged somewhat; the number was at its smallest in 2002 (326) and at its greatest in 2004 (394). Last year outgoing students numbered 376.
The most popular destinations among outgoing students were Spain (12.2%), Germany (8.8%), Portugal (8.8%) the UK (8.5%) and France (8.2%).
This figure includes all those spending three months on exchange and those going abroad under the auspices of exchange programmes on an independent basis. Those taking up international traineeships are also included. The statistical data is based on information stored in the student database regarding those abroad.
Most outgoing students (50.3%) and incoming students (66.5%) were on the Erasmus Programme.
