UTA higher education Erasmus programme - an EU success story
The ERASMUS programme at the University of Tampere has been selected as one of the EU lifelong learning success stories.
The University has participated in the ERASMUS programme for universities ever since 1992. The Programme includes student and teacher exchange between countries participating in the ERASMUS programme (EU Member States, EEC countries and Turkey) and since 2007 the mobility of other personnel and trainees. The Programme moreover arranges intensive courses, creates thematic networks and funds various development and co-operation projects of HEIs.
In the time during which the University of Tampere has participated in ERASMUS exchange the number of incoming exchange students has risen from 14 to the present 300. There has also been a steady increase in the number of outgoing students to an annual 200.
Other institutions in Finland so acknowledged are the Haaga Helia polytechnic, the Ruralia Institute, University of Helsinki for the Leonardo da Vinci programme and HUMAK for its information and communications technology. This is the third time that European awards have been made for lifelong learning.
On a European scale the EU creativity and innovation theme year nominated a total of 72 projects as success stories. In the theme year creativity and innovation and the role of projects in modernizing education systems influenced the choice of success stories.
